Princess Momo Book turns one year old!
Blasian Children’s Book, Princess Momo Book turns 1 today.
Happy Birthday Princess Momo! Our second Blasian children’s book turns 1 year old. Just about 12 months ago I launched my second book in my Brownies collection.
I was so proud to be able to offer this book to our followers. Princess Momo is a coming of age story about my real life daughter whose nick name is Momo.
In the story she is going to preschool. In preschool she is able to wear her princess dress to class.
Towards the end of the year her teacher informs her that she will need to wear a univorm for first grade. Once she realized that she will need to wear a uniform she is not happy about this change.
The story goes through the emotions and thoughts of change and moving forward in life. The moral of the story is that her princess dress is not what makes her a princess. She learns from her dad that it’s her behavior that makes her a princess.
I am proud of this story because my Blasian children’s book offers more than just, my mom is African American and my dad is Japanese. Although cultural notes are important that is not the only story that we need in the multicultural community.
I found the sweetest watercolor artist Amber Malott. She was able to make my vision come to life. We discussed the concept of the book and she was able to depict my words beautifully.
This process was completely different from my first book. We Live in Japan was written with my boys in mind over 7 years ago. It’s hard to believe it has been that long. We were in the top 100 of Amazon for weeks.
