Soon the children will return to school for a new semester after winter break. Here are 5 reasons to Homeschool in 2024. Because there are many things to consider like your time, age of your children and the state you live in, I will provide some resources.
- Quality of Education
If you have noticed, there are dozens of books now banned in public schools. Even though there are bits of history that are uncomfortable they are necessary to learn. How can we understand how we have arrived at the current laws in our country? How can children understand behaviors and traditions without learning history thoroughly?

- Cost of Educational Setting
Now more so than ever schools are underfunded. You are constantly met with Class Dojo requests for gift cards and donations. There is also the ask from teachers for supplies and special shirts. Before you even get to field trips, snacks and book fairs you have spent a pretty penny in one semester. The costs can easily add up if you have more than one child. I love Scholastic but you don’t need to be in public school to visit their site and purchase books on your own.
- School Schedule
Of the 5 reasons to Homeschool in 2024 this is the one that I am all in on. The Public School schedule. If I want to take my children to a theme park when there are good prices or small crowds that is nearly impossible. If I want to take a long family vacation they will miss days. That is just from my side. The school has their own song and dance of teacher work days and half days that can literally destroy the most thought out weeks. To live life on your own terms Homeschool is the way.
- Bullying from other students
Sadly this is the darkest reason on the list. A school bully can destroy a child. Teachers have their parameters and protocols to follow but often not much can be done. In Fayetteville, NC there was an incident where a parent was charged with a form of trespassing for boarding a school bus to “reprimand” her child’s bully. This was in America but it’s a worldwide problem. Read more about Mio. Her father wrote this book to encourage bi-racial children who may experience bullying in Japan.
- State oversight
This one can rub some parents the wrong way. When you send your child to school the school system has a say over what kinds of vaccines the child has to have. They also have a standard of behavior that your child has to follow. That’s not horrible child if you have a bell curve child…but if your child is ADHD or has other different learning styles you could be in for a lot of heartache. Too many missed days, a ripped pair of pants or unkempt hair are all at the discretion of the school to report as neglect. I know nobody reading this would abuse a child so my point is that you are being held to a standard that may misunderstand lifestyle and socio economic status as neglect.
