If you are a homeowner then you may not be aware of the most common issues you can have as a homeowner. These are usually pretty simple to rectify but are best to be fixed as soon as you notice them crop up. If you leave the major jobs then these can turn into expensive jobs to fix.
You may not be aware of the common issues, take a look below to find out more.
Leaky Roof
One of the most common issues that you might face as a homeowner is a leaky roof. This problem is not always easy to notice unless you regularly inspect your roof. You will only notice an issue with your roof when you start to notice wet patches on your ceilings, walls, and floors.
Once you get to this stage you need to get it fixed pretty much straight away so that it doesn’t cause damage to the house itself. Water damage can get into the foundations of the home and cause subsidence.
HVAC Issues
Something else to be aware of especially during seasonal changes is the HVAC system you have in your home. This can fail due to any number of reasons but most likely breaks down due to it not being used. It can also become clogged with dust, dirt, and debris from the ventilation systems.
In order to prevent this from happening you should carry out regular maintenance throughout the year to ensure it is in full working order.
Cold House
Have you noticed your house is particularly cold during the winter months? This may be due to small cracks in your windows and doors. If your home is particularly old then this can be a common problem as the wood or plastic surrounding the windows and doors is also aging. In order to prevent this, you can place draft excluders at the bottom of the doors.
For the windows, if you can see the cracks then you could fill them in with filler. If they are beyond repair then you may just need to replace the windows altogether.
Broken Boiler
Another problem that leaves a lot of homeowners with no hot water or heating is a boiler breakdown. Again, this can happen during seasonal changes as it takes a shock to the system when the cold weather hits.
Boiler breakdowns are most common during winter, so make sure you get someone in to check it before the cold spell hits. As a homeowner the boiler is your responsibility, check with various providers on payment plans as boiler repairs and replacements can be expensive.
Infestations
Finally, a problem that can affect you during the warmer months is infestations. Flies and wasps are common in household areas and if you leave your doors and windows open during the day then they can fly in and make themselves at home.
In order to avoid this, you could try the penny-in-a-bag trick. Simply fill a bag half full and place four or five pennies in the bag. Hang it by an open window or door and you will notice that there are no more flies entering your home.
