There is nothing worse than having a lingering odor in the home, every time you come home, it is there waiting for you. And no matter how many candles you light, the smell just won’t seem to move.
The issue with lingering odors is that usually, they have been around for a little while and are just getting progressively worse. So while you might hope it will resolve itself, the chances are it won’t.
Here are some tips to get rid of those smells once and for all!

Carpet cleaning
Carpets are notorious for soaking up stains, holding in grime, and eventually letting off a whiff that no amount of vacuuming will get rid of. Although you should try to spot clean as often as possible, daily life can get in the way and leave you with the odd stain getting trodden in.
Booking a professional carpet cleaning once a month or once every few months is one of the fastest ways to defend yourself and your home against lingering odors.
Air quality
Any time the weather allows for, and sometimes even when it doesn’t, airing the rooms out is a good idea. Open a couple of windows on either side of the home or the top and bottom floors to encourage airflow.
New houses are designed to hold in as much heat as possible. Unfortunately, that means you have to be extra vigilant about letting that air out often.
Getting a filter in the home can help to reduce the amount of air pollution that you have.
Deep clean
A sock tucked down the side of the sofa, a gym bag hidden in the back of the cupboard, or a banana skin that somehow festers somewhere in the back of the fridge can all be culprits for a smell. And it isn’t until you have a really deep clean that you find all of these little things have added up to a much bigger problem.
A deep clean might not sound like a lot of fun, but doing it once a week can make sure that all of the nooks and crannies get deep disinfection and that all of those typical household smells are banished (at least for now).
Bathrooms
Bathrooms are hotbeds for smells, and that is because they are one of the most used rooms in the home. Often filled with steam, which can get trapped and start mold growing too. Dropped towels, missing socks, and all sorts can happen in a busy family with lots going on. Cleaning your toilet regularly and adding a loo bloc into the cistern can help prevent many lingering smells.
It can also be the case that you haven’t had the energy or the will to clean for a little while, and it has gotten on top of you. If that is the case, here are a couple of posts that can help you get your home shipshape again:
