The weather has changed. It has become lighter, fresher, and warmer, which can mean only one thing – spring has arrived. If you look out your window and see the carnage of winter, it’s time to pull on your gardening gloves, pick up your rake, and prepare your garden for summer.
Clean the Garden
The winter can take its toll on your garden; high winds and rainfall break off branches, leaves, and stalks that can be found in your flower gardens, planters, and decking. Start your spring cleaning by making sure there is no organic debris lying around that can contaminate growth.
Branches, leaves, stalks, or any other organic matter in the garden can carry and spread disease stalling your growing season and putting the health of your garden at risk. Always clear up any organic debris and check your trees and plants for dead stalks that can be taken away.
Lawn Care
If you want a lawn that looks like a fairway summer, you need to know how to treat it at different times of the year. When your grass is first put down, or the seeds are planted, you should leave it to grow by itself. However, the grass will soon develop some moss that needs to be removed.
Mossy undergrowth makes your lawn look unkempt and uneven. This moss appears throughout the winter, so your lawn should be scarified in the spring. To scarify the grass, put down some moss killer. A few weeks later, gently rake the grass removing all the dead moss from the lawn.
Spring Planting
Some of the first flowers to emerge from the topsoil in spring include snowdrops, daffodils, primroses, and hellebores. These early flowers are used to mark the beginning of spring and the countdown to summer. These early spring flowers are perennials and are easy to manage.
While many flowering plants come out in the springtime, it is also a good time to plant some new bulbs for the summer. If you want to enjoy a garden full of color and fragrance this summer, find some high-quality topsoil and plant some lovely wildflowers, begonias, calla lilies, and dahlias.
Stone Pavers
One of the joys of the summer season is spending time in the garden, which could mean sitting on the patio with friends and family or laying on the grass, sunning yourself on a beach towel. Either way, it helps to have some quality pavers in your garden to improve garden aesthetics.
Stone pavers can be made from natural stone, concrete, porcelain, or clay brick. Most people consider natural stone to be the best option, but it is not always the cheapest. Concrete pavers are usually cheaper, and these days, you can buy colored concrete that mimics natural stone.
Decking Treatment
If you have wooden decking in your garden, you’re in luck; it’s an excellent way to spend the summer months. However, you need to make sure your decking looks nice for your gatherings. Spring is an excellent time to restrain your decking, repaint it, or use an anti-slip treatment.
