I have nothing against the reading lists that come out every summer.
Some of the books have great vocabulary and some of them I grew up with. They are my favorite stories like The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings series.
Not a thing wrong with fantasy and wonder being fostered in our children…BUT
If you are a middle class family, a family looking to move up from middle class or a family who is wanting to move up to middle class these are a good focus for your teen.
As early as 13 children can start to learn the value of a dollar as well as the principles of money management and leadership.
In no particular order here are books I suggest for ages 13-18
Amazon is a fantastic resource, I will share my links but if you live in a major city, consider your local library.
If you have more than one child I suggest investing in the Barnes and Noble membership to buy the books (and get coffees in store) at a discount.
As with anything I suggest, please review the books to be sure these principles match with your family’s core value system
Happy Reading!
