Meet the Eborn Family
Big families used to be a common thing. Farms and family businesses required an in house workforce. To have a large family ensured a viable existence at one time.
I would not say a mom of 10 was a regular thing but family certainly extended past 2.5 children and a dog.
Times have changed over those many years. Now to see a large family people are often shocked. I think this is what contributed to the success of shows like 6 Little McGhees and John and Kate Plus 8.
In this blog post we meet the Eborn family. Mrs. Eborn is a mom of 10. The Eborns are not quakers or separatists. They live like most other Americans. They have regular school, activities, home owners and all around productive members of society.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Eborn were born and raised in NYC but after their family began to grow they decided to purchase a home outside of the city.
I have 3 children whom I homeschool and we have a few family businesses. It’s a challenge for me to manage them all. I was very curious about how a mom of 10 manages her day to day.
People are very curious and sometimes rude when it comes to the challenges of being a housewife. Hopefully as we continue to share our stories people will realize that every mother’s lifestyle requires work. Even if you are a pet mom!
Mr and Mrs Eborn will celebrate their 18th wedding anniversary this September!
I was so excited to sit down with Mrs Eborn to chit chat about what it’s like to care for 10 children.
They have 10 children ranging from college age all the way to newborn. I talked to Mrs. Eborn before the formula shortage. I will have to check back in with her to see how she is doing with this situation.
The most recent addition coming just over this past Mother’s Day weekend. The Eborn family welcomed a baby girl making 10 total.
Did you always know that you wanted to have 10 children?
Yes I always told my grandmothers since I was little that I was going to have a big family.
Do you have plans to have any more children?
I don’t know only time will tell.
Why did you decide to give your children names that all begin with J?
My husband’s name begins with J and he wanted all of our kids to have a name that starts with J.
How do you transport 10 children?
I have a 12 passenger van.
Are people shocked when they see you all out as a family?
Yes, sometimes they stop and talk with us and ask us questions.
What is the craziest comment you ever received about being a mom of 10?
People always ask me “Are you having anymore?” or “Is this your last one?” as if I’m sitting at their dinner table or as if they’re funding our lifestyle.
How do you manage school and all of their activities?
Most of my kids go to the same school so usually if they have any extracurricular activities they usually start and end around the same time. My kids that are in high school and college know how to follow a routine on their own.
How much is your monthly grocery bill?
That’s very hard to say because even though we do a big grocery haul, we still bring in groceries we need on a daily basis.
You can watch The Eborn Family shop here!
What advice do you have for moms?
I feel like the best advice I can give to another mom is to have lots of patience whether you have 1 kid or 10. You can’t cry over spilled milk because it already happened, the best thing you can do is clean it and move on.
What other things do you want our readers to know about you and your family?
I would like the readers to know that we have a YouTube channel “The Eborn Family” so come and check us out !
